Safe Passage – Awáŋyaŋka Wakanjeja
A community-led initiative that ensures Native youth in North Rapid get to and from school safely—walking beside them, protecting them, and reminding them they matter.
Safe Passage – Awáŋyaŋka Wakanjeja: Because No Child Should Have to Survive Just to Learn
In North Rapid, our kids don’t just walk to school—they navigate chaos.
That’s why we created Safe Passage – Awáŋyaŋka Wakanjeja, meaning “Keeping the Children Safe.”
Our team is there. In the cold. In the dark. On foot.
We stand at the gates like relatives—as tiospaye.
Our impact?
In every child who sees our van and knows—they matter.
In every moment we say, “We see you. We got you.”
Safe Passage:
It’s survival.
It’s ceremony.
It’s justice.
And we’ll keep showing up.
Rain. Snow. Because that’s what we do.
